DIRTY SOUND SYSTEM (DIRTY)
What turns you on?
Now? Love! I try to write love songs… it’ s very difficult! But I try…
What is your favorite word?
The french word “vasistas”, which come from the german “was ist das”, which means “what is this”…a vasistas is a window in a roof…
What sound or noise do you love?
Bass from my heartbeat, the sound of rain on the roof…
Have you driven anyone insane?
Yes, but positively…
Have you ever made a practice of confusing people?
What should everyone shut up about?
Talking about our president…
What advice should you have taken, but did not?
Taking a lot of drugs, but I stopped now…it gave me finally a depression…
What is your vital daily ritual?
a cup of Twinings’ vintage Darjeeling with lemon curt on toasted broad in the morning and maybe an egg and reading the “faits divers” (?) in our toulousian local press “La Depeche”..
What do you fear most?
Fear…I like Roosevelt’s sentence, which was sung by Coil: “The only thing to fear is fear itself”…
How would you like to die?
Why not while having an orgasm…
What is your earliest memory?
The street with trees in front of our house in Germany in Hamburg…
Do you collect anything?
since I am sixteen I try to collect the hole Residents records (which is practicly impossible!!) i’m still looking after their first double 7 inch “Santa Dog”, which is a kind of “holy grail” for me. There are only 300 ex. In the world, A friend of mine, Richard Linon from “Mucho Bizarre” found it one day in a little shop in Monpellier and he bourght for 30 francs!
A fundamental thinker?
Hum there are so many, most of them are classic writers or filmakers: Antonin Artaud, Fedor Dostoievski, Dante, Carl Theodor Dreyer, the Marx Brothers…
What is your most recent extravagance?
Bying and drinking some grand crus classe from Bordeaux or Bourgogne…during two years i was working in a vineshop where i could make music, too. The claps and some vocals of my next album were recorded there…the shop has a very good acoustic…wine is deep and soulful…
What five words best describe you?
slow, fast, blue, vasistas, heartbeat
What is your worst addiction?
Myspace, but i stopped looking at it too often…
What were you doing at midnight last night?
Recording the bass for a new song…
Who is your worst enemy?
Adolf Hitler and this kind of human beings…
Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?
Harpo from the Marx Brothers…
Who are your favorite heroines in real life?
My girlfriend, which gives me alot of power and inspiration for my music…making love songs is as difficult for me as writing “Daddy’s gone” for exemple, a song i wrote about my fathers death…these are very strong think in my life i try to express honestly…i don’t know why i have to it, but it’s maybe a kind of personal mission i have to accomplish…
Who would you have liked to be?
Maybe me, but without fears and so much earlier…
Soft Cell “Tainted Dub “ – 1981
here are two dirty sound system mixes for your late summer nights.
the first one is a home listening mix, the second one could be called a club mix.
no editing, no overdubs, we left all the mistakes.
the california mix is also available on fairtilizer, you can read the track by track here. guns don’t kill people, song do will be available as a podcast for modular. it features some upcoming discodeine remixes & tunes alongside club (un)classics.
erratum : a few weeks ago i posted a fantastic trademark track, a slow disco version of “days of pearly spencer” wich was sampled by quiet village and i forgot to mention that this track was first discovered by the talented people from versatile (one of our favourite french label by the way). check their blog, it rocks.
